The Story Behind KoCo Crew
I originally conceived Koco Crew LLC as a place for Kyriakos to expand his kitting activities, so that his consulting company could grow in both settings and revenue.
Kyriakos has always had a predilection for slotting objects into their spaces. It is one of his real job skills, and educators like Paige have been able to develop it and bring meaning to it for his employment. The work gives him more things to talk about, which is an important part of employment for developmentally disabled people.
Although he has no language per se, he can look at pictures of the work he does and watch videos about kitting and inventory management, and it has meaning to him. We also work on the vocabulary involved in kitting.

The people behind every kit
Elissa Karathanasis, CEO and Founder
Our CEO handles quality control personally. Her own medical and biomedical research background informs the ordering process, the assessment of component parts, and the logistics of kit procurement.
Dr Sotirios Karathanasis, Director of Biomedical Services
Our star employee lent his talents to Koco Crew early and brought in immediate revenue, drawing on long experience and expertise in biomedical research. He also brought valuable vendor and client relationships that helped establish and authenticate the business.
Kyriakos, Independent Consultant
Kyriakos is developmentally disabled and nonverbal, and he is the reason Koco Crew exists. He works under his own handle, Koko Consulting Company. His position was arranged through vocational rehabilitation in the state of Indiana: an employment manager at Easterseals arranged a role for him at State Safety and Compliance. He is an independent consultant to State Safety and Compliance, where his manager, Karen Weinman, is deeply knowledgeable about activities of daily living and employment responsibilities for developmentally disabled people, and is able to give Kyriakos job responsibilities he can really embrace.
Paige, Assembly Instructor
Paige is an experienced kitter who has worked alongside Kyriakos for half a year assembling products for State Safety and Compliance. She joined us with a background in special education, holding her certificate and five years of experience in a public school setting. She instructs and oversees the assembly of convenience kits with excellent precision and a deep understanding of the participants under her guidance, and she steps in to assemble products herself when needed.
How We Work
Precision, procurement, and quality control
Our CEO's background in biomedical research laboratories familiarizes her with the ordering process and the assessment of the component parts of the kits we assemble. Her experience with purchasing for academia and pharmaceutical companies helps her work through the logistics of convenience kit component procurement.
On the floor, Paige instructs and oversees assembly with precision and supervision. Quality control is by the CEO herself.
Our home at Connie's Clubhouse
The space where our kitting is performed is leased by Connie's Clubhouse. Connie's Clubhouse provides employment training and instruction in activities of daily living for developmentally disabled individuals, and it also offers leisure and social time with people who share similar challenges, which matters for Kyriakos.
Connie's Clubhouse participates in transition and disability fairs. These fairs are a sales opportunity for Koco Crew, and they also provide needed convenience kits for the individuals who attend.
